The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the setting star, 1 Your Companion is neither astray nor being misled. 2 Nor doth he speak of (his own) desire. 3 It is but a revelation revealed. 4 and taught to him 5 by the great mighty one (Gabriel), 6 And he is in the highest part of the horizon. 7 Then he approached and descended 8 So the distance between the Spectacle and the beloved was only two arms’ length, or even less. (The Heavenly Journey of Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him – was with body and soul.) 9 So did (Allah) convey the Inspiration to His slave [Muhammad SAW through Jibrael (Gabriel)]. 10 The [servant's] heart did not give the lie to what he saw: 11 What, will you dispute with him about what he sees! 12 For indeed he saw him at a second descent, 13 By the Lote-tree beyond which none can pass, 14 near which is the Garden of Abode. 15 when there covered the Lote-Tree that which covered; 16 (His) sight never swerved, nor did it go wrong! 17 for indeed he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you ever thought about al-Lat and al-Uzza, 19 and about the third deity, al-Manat? 20 "What! For you the males and for Him the females?" 21 This is an unfair distinction! 22 They are but names, named by you and your fathers. Allah has not sent down any authority for them. They follow conjecture and their soul's desire, eventhough the guidance of their Lord has come to them. 23 Or shall man have what he coveteth? 24 All that is in the life to come and all that is in this life belongs only to God. 25
