Thamood cried lies to the Envoys 141 When their brother Salih said unto them: Will ye not ward off (evil)? 142 "I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 143 So fear God and follow me. 144 I do not ask for any payment for my preaching. I shall receive my reward from the Lord of the Universe. 145 Will you be left secure in this here, 146 In gardens and springs. 147 The fields of corn and date-palm trees with soft and tender spathes, 148 And hew ye out houses in the mountains skilfully! 149 So fear Allah and obey me. 150 do not obey the bidding of those who are given to excesses, 151 Who work corruption in the land and rectify not. 152 They said, "You are only bewitched and insane. 153 Thou art nothing but a mortal like ourselves! Come, then, forward with a token [of thy mission] if thou art a man of truth!" 154 He said, "This is a she-camel. For her is a [time of] drink, and for you is a [time of] drink, [each] on a known day. 155 Do not treat her unkindly or the punishment of a grievous day will fall on you." 156 But they hamstrung her and so became regretful. 157 So the torment overtook them. Verily, in this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 158 But, verily, thy Sustainer - He alone - is almighty, a dispenser of grace! 159
