The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the Mount, 1 and a Book inscribed 2 on wide-open scrolls. 3 And by oath of the Inhabited House. 4 and the roof uplifted 5 And by the Ocean filled with Swell;- 6 the torment of your Lord will inevitably take place 7 There is none can avert it;- 8 The day the sky will tremble, 9 And the mountains will move with a visible movement. 10 Woe will be to those who rejected the Truth 11 Who, ignoring the Reality, engage in pleasantries. 12 on the Day when they shall be thrust into the fire with [an irresistible] thrust, [and will be told:] 13 This is the Fire which you used to belie. 14 Was it, then, a delusion or is it that you failed to see [its truth]? 15 Enter into it, then bear (it) patiently, or do not bear (it) patiently, it is the same to you; you shall be requited only (for) what you did. 16 Verily the God-fearing will be in Gardens and Delight. 17 Delighted at the bestowal of their Lord; and their Lord has saved them from the fire. 18 They will be told, "Eat and drink to your heart's delight for what you have done". 19 They will recline (with ease) on Thrones (of dignity) arranged in ranks; and We shall join them to Companions, with beautiful big and lustrous eyes. 20 To those who have attained to faith We shall unite their offspring who have also followed them in faith, and We shall not let any of their good deeds go unrewarded; every human being is a pledge for whatever he has earned. 21 And We shall increasingly give them fruit and meat such as they desire. 22 There, they shall pass from hand to hand a cup which does not lead to any idle talk or sin. 23 ۞ and youths, of their own, shall pass among them as if they were hidden pearls. 24 And some of them draw near to others, questioning. 25 They will say: verily we were aforetime, midst our household, ever in dread. 26 and God was gracious to us, and guarded us against the chastisement of the burning wind; 27 before this, we used to pray to Him. Surely, He is the Beneficent, the Merciful." 28
