The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 Arise and warn 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 Purify your inner self, 4 And all abomination shun! 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 it will be a hard day 9 Not of ease, for disbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 and sons ever present with him, 13 and made all things smooth for him; 14 Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);- 15 Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. 16 I shall inflict on him hardship, 17 He reflected, and then determined 18 (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! 19 And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he looked round; 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; 24 'this is nothing but mortal speech.' 25 I will cast him into hell. 26 And what will explain to thee what Hell-Fire is? 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 Above it are nineteen. 30 We have made only angels as the keepers of the fire (for they are the strongest in carrying out Our commands). Our informing (people) of the numbers of these angels is a trial for the disbelievers. It gives more certainty to the people of the Book and strengthens the faith of the believers. The people of the Book and the believers have no doubt about it. We have fixed the number to make the disbelievers and those whose hearts are sick say, "What does God mean by such a parable?" Thus, God guides and causes to go astray whomever He wants. No one knows about the army of your Lord except He Himself. This parable is a reminder for mankind. 31
