The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the night when it envelopeth, 1 And the day when it shines in all its glory, 2 And by Who created the male and female, 3 surely your striving is to diverse ends. 4 We shall facilitate the path to bliss 5 And believes in the best [reward], 6 observe piety, and believe in receiving rewards from God. 7 But for those who are niggardly, horde their wealth, 8 And gives the lie to the best,- 9 For him We shall ease the way of adversity, 10 and their wealth will be of no benefit to them when they face destruction. 11 Surely upon Us rests the guidance, 12 And lo! unto Us belong the latter portion and the former. 13 and so I warn you of the raging fire 14 None shall enter it save the most wretched, 15 He who denieth and turneth away. 16 But those most devoted to Allah shall be removed far from it,- 17 the Godfearing who spends his wealth to purify himself; 18 not as payment for any favours that he received, 19 seeking only the Face of his Lord, the Most High, 20 He will surely be well-pleased (with him). 21
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
