And recite unto them the story of Ibrahim. 69 When he said to his father and his people: What do you worship? 70 They said: "We worship idols, and we remain constantly in attendance on them." 71 He said: "Do they listen to you when ye call (on them)?" 72 "Or do you good or harm?" 73 They said: nay; but we found our fathers doing in this wise. 74 He said: "Do ye then see whom ye have been worshipping,- 75 Ye and your fathers of old? 76 Lo! they are (all) an enemy unto me, save the Lord of the Worlds, 77 who created me. It is He who guides me; 78 He who gives me food and drink; 79 "And when I am ill, it is He who cures me. 80 And He Who shall cause me to die, and then shall quicken me. 81 And who I aspire that He will forgive me my sin on the Day of Recompense." 82 "O my Sustainer! Endow me with the ability to judge [between right and wrong,] and make me one with the righteous, 83 And uphold my name with posterity, 84 “And make me among the inheritors of the Gardens of serenity.” 85 "And forgive my father - for, verily, he is among those who have gone astray 86 Do not betray me 87 The Day whereon neither wealth nor sons will avail, 88 "But only he (will prosper) that brings to Allah a sound heart; 89 And the Garden shall be brought nigh to the God-fearing. 90 And hell will be revealed for the astray. 91 It shall be said to them, 'Where is that you were serving 92 besides God? Will the idols help you? Can they help themselves?" 93 Thereupon they will be hurled into hell - they, as well as all [others] who had been lost in grievous error, 94 And the hosts of the Shaitan, all. 95 They shall say, as they dispute there one with another, 96 By Allah, of a truth we were in error manifest 97 when we made you equal with the Lord of the Universe. 98 It was naught but the sinners that led us astray; 99 So we have no intercessors, 100 nor a loving friend. 101 Would that we had a second chance [in life,] so that we could be among the believers!" 102 Verily in this is a Sign but most of them do not believe. 103 And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. 104
