Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the dawn 1 And the ten nights, 2 And by the even and the odd, 3 And by the Night when it passeth away;- 4 Is there in that an oath for the mindful? 5 Hast thou not seen how thy Lord did with Ad, 6 (The people of) Aram, possessors of lofty buildings, 7 The likes of whom had never been created in the land? 8 and with the Thamud, who cut out [huge] rocks in the valley, 9 and Pharaoh, he of the tent-pegs, 10 who transgressed in the countries of the world 11 and caused much corruption in them: 12 Thus, your Lord afflicted them with torment; 13 Most surely your Lord is watching. 14 As for man - when his Lord proveth him and so honoureth him and is bounteous unto him, then he saith: 'my Lord hath honoured me, 15 But when He tries him, by straitening his means of life, he says: "My Lord has humiliated me!" 16 Nay, but ye (for your part) honour not the orphan 17 Nor do ye encourage one another to feed the poor!- 18 and you devour the inheritance with greed, 19 And you harbour intense love for wealth. 20 No indeed! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 And thy Lord cometh, and His angels, rank upon rank, 22 And when hell is brought that day – on that day will man reflect, but where is the time now to think? 23 He will say: "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life [to come]!" 24 So on that Day, none will punish [as severely] as His punishment, 25 And no one binds like He does! 26 But ah! thou soul at peace! 27 Return unto thy Lord, content in His good pleasure! 28 So enter among My (righteous) servants 29 And enter My Paradise." 30
