The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the night enshrouding 1 by the day when it appears radiant, 2 And [by] He who created the male and female, 3 Indeed your efforts differ. 4 Thus, as for him who gives [to others] and is conscious of God, 5 And believed the best matter to be true 6 We shall surely ease him to the Path of Easing; 7 But as for him who is a miser, and self-sufficient, 8 And denied the best matter, 9 For him We shall ease the way of adversity, 10 and his wealth shall be of no avail to him when he perishes. 11 Surely, in Our hands is guidance, 12 and to Us belong the Next Life and the present. 13 and so I warn you of the raging fire 14 No one will burn in it but the most wretched, 15 Who had denied and turned away. 16 And Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous - see V. 2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell). 17 who spend for the cause of God and purify themselves. 18 They do not expect any reward 19 but only out of a longing for the countenance of his Sustainer, the All-Highest: 20 He will surely be well-pleased (with him). 21
