The 'Ad (people) rejected the messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)? 124 I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 125 So fear God and listen to me. 126 I do not ask for any payment for my preaching. I shall receive my reward from the Lord of the Universe. 127 Do you build on every height a monument? Vain is it that you do: 128 "And do ye get for yourselves fine buildings in the hope of living therein (for ever)? 129 “And when you apprehend someone, you seize him mercilessly?” 130 So fear God, and obey me; 131 Have fear of the One who has bestowed upon you all that you know. 132 Who has provided you with flocks and children 133 And gardens and fountains; 134 I fear for you the chastisement of an Awesome Day." 135 They replied: 'It is the same to us whether you admonish or whether you are not one of the admonishers. 136 This is but a fable of the men of old, 137 And we are not going to be punished. 138 Then they accused him of lies; so We annihilated them. Verily there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 139 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
