The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls. 1 Which is bound to happen undoubtedly -- 2 Abasing exalting. 3 When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. 4 The mountains bruised and crushed, 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 [on that Day,] then, shall you be [divided into] three kinds. 7 Then (as to) the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 8 And (then) those on the left hand; what of those on the left hand? 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 Who will be honoured 11 in the beautiful Paradise. 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 They (will be seated) on gold-encrusted couches, 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 There shall go round unto them youths ever-young. 17 with goblets and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 they will also go about them with the fruits of which they may choose, 20 And the meat of fowl, from whatever they desire. 21 and wide-eyed houris 22 The likenesses of pearls well-protected, 23 A recompense for that which they have been working. 24 They will hear no nonsense there or talk of sin, 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 They will live amid the thornless lot trees 28 Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, 29 And a shade ever-spread. 30 and flowing water 31 And fruit in abundance. 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 Indeed We formed them (the houris and all believing women), 35 having resurrected them as virgins, 36 Loving, of equal age. 37 for the people of the right hand 38
