The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ About what are they asking one another? 1 (Is it) of the great announcement 2 About which they have been differing? 3 Nay, but in time they will come to understand [it]! 4 Again, indeed, they shall know! 5 HAVE WE NOT made the earth a resting-place [for you,] 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 and created you in pairs (as men and women), 8 and We appointed your sleep for a rest; 9 And We made the night to be a covering, 10 And made the day for livelihood 11 And We made above you seven strong ones, 12 and have placed [therein the sun,] a lamp full of blazing splendour. 13 And do We not send down from the clouds water in abundance, 14 That We may bring forth thereby corn and herbs, 15 And gardens of thick growth. 16 Lo! the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 the Day when the trumpet [of resurrection] is sounded and you all come forward in multitudes; 18 and when the sky shall be opened up and will become all doors; 19 and the mountains will be set in motion and become a mirage. 20 Behold, Gehenna has become an ambush, 21 The destination of the rebellious. 22 Living therein for ages. 23 Finding neither sleep nor any thing to drink 24 save boiling water and wash of the wounds; 25 An exact recompense (according to their evil crimes). 26 They indeed hoped not for a reckoning, 27 But they belied Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, and that which Our Prophet (Peace be upon him) brought) completely. 28 but We have placed on record every single thing [of what they did]. 29 Taste therefore. We shall not increase you in aught but torment. 30
