He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 to him thou attendest 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 And whereas he fears, 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 In honored books, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
