And rehearse to them (something of) Abraham's story. 69 when he asked his father and his people, "What is that which you worship?" 70 They said: "We worship idols, and to them we are ever devoted." 71 He asked: "Do they hear you when you call them 72 Or, benefit they you or hurt they you? 73 They said: "No. But we found our fathers doing so." 74 He said: "Do you observe that which you have been worshipping, 75 "You and your forefathers preceding you." 76 "Now [as for me, I know that,] verily, these [false deities] are my enemies, [and that none is my helper] save the Sustainer of all the worlds, 77 Who created me and Who guides me; 78 And He Who gives me to eat and gives me to drink: 79 and Who, when I am ill, heals me; 80 who makes me to die, then gives me life, 81 "And Who, I hope will forgive me my faults on the Day of Recompense, (the Day of Resurrection)," 82 "O my Lord! bestow wisdom on me, and join me with the righteous; 83 and grant me an honourable reputation among posterity, 84 And put me among the inheritors of Paradise. 85 And forgive my father. Indeed, he has been of those astray. 86 and do not put me to shame on the Day when all shall be raised from the dead: 87 "The day when neither wealth will benefit nor will sons." 88 but only he that brings to Allah a sound heart will (attain to success)." 89 On the Day of Judgment Paradise will be brought near the pious 90 And Hell is brought near to the perverse' 91 And it shall be said to them: Where are those that you used to worship; 92 "'Besides Allah? Can they help you or help themselves?' 93 Thereupon they will be hurled into hell - they, as well as all [others] who had been lost in grievous error, 94 and the hosts of Iblis, all together. 95 They shall say, as they dispute there one with another, 96 "By God, we were most obviously astray 97 when we assigned to you a position equal to that of the Lord of the Universe. 98 And none but the guilty led us astray; 99 So we have no intercessors, 100 Nor a true friend; 101 Were there for us a return, we would be of the believers. 102 Verily herein is a sign, but most of them are not believers. 103 And lo, thy Lord! He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
