(O Prophet), did you see him who turned away (from the Path of Allah), 33 and gives a little, and then grudgingly? 34 Hath he knowledge of the Unseen so that he seeth? 35 Has not he been informed of the contents of the Book of Moses 36 And of Abraham who fulfilled his engagements?- 37 That no soul shall bear another's burden, 38 and that a man shall have to his account only as he has laboured, 39 That his endeavours will be judged, 40 Thereafter he shall be recompensed therefor with the fullest recompense. 41 To your Lord will all things eventually return. 42 and that it is He alone who causes [you] to laugh and to weep; 43 And that He it is Who causes death and gives life- 44 and that it is He who created pairs, the male and the female, 45 From the small seed when it is adapted 46 and that it is for Him to grant the second life, 47 That it is He Who giveth wealth and satisfaction; 48 And that He is the Lord of the Sirius; 49 that it was He that destroyed ancient Aad 50 And (the tribe of) Thamud He spared not; 51 and the people of Noah before -- certainly they did exceeding evil, and were insolent 52 And He overthrew the Cities of the Plain, 53 So there covered them that which did cover (i.e. torment with stones). 54 Then which of the gifts of thy Lord, (O man,) wilt thou dispute about? 55 This is a Warner, of the (series of) Warners of old! 56 The threatened Hour is nigh. 57 None but God can avert it. 58 At this discourse then marvel ye? 59 And will ye laugh and not weep,- 60 Will you occupy yourselves simply in merriment? 61 So bow yourselves before God, and serve Him! ۩ 62
