He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 Yet you pay attention 5 You pay full attention, 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 And produce therein corn, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 and covered by darkness. 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
