The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By oath of the night when it covers 1 By the Day as it appears in glory; 2 and by the creation of the male and the female. 3 Verily, (the ends) ye strive for are diverse. 4 So for one who gave and practised piety 5 And accepts the best, 6 We will ease him toward ease. 7 But for those who are niggardly, horde their wealth, 8 And rejects the best, 9 Surely We will ease his way unto adversity. 10 and what will his wealth avail him when he goes down [to his grave]? 11 Indeed, [incumbent] upon Us is guidance. 12 And most surely Ours is the hereafter and the former. 13 Wherefore I have warned you of Fire flaming, 14 in which none shall be roasted except the most wretched sinner, 15 who rejected the Truth, calling it falsehood and turned his back on it. 16 The pious ones will be safe from this fire 17 even he who gives his wealth. to purify himself 18 And no one has done a favour to him, for which he should be compensated. 19 But only the desire to seek for the Countenance of their Lord Most High; 20 and he shall surely be satisfied. 21
