The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Recite in the name of your Lord who created - 1 created man out of a germ-cell 2 Recite thou: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, 3 Who teacheth by the pen, 4 taught Man that he knew not. 5 Indeed, surely the human is very insolent 6 because he thinks himself self-sufficient: 7 Surely to your Lord is your return. 8 Have you seen the one who forbids 9 a worshiper when he prays. 10 Have you seen if he was upon guidance 11 or bade to godfearing -- 12 What is your opinion – if he denies and turns away, how wretched will be his state! 13 Did he not know that God sees? 14 Nay, but if he cease not We will seize him by the forelock - 15 A lying, sinning forelock. 16 So let him call on his concourse! 17 We too would summon the braves of the army. 18 Yes indeed; do not listen to him – and prostrate, and become close to Us. (Command of Prostration # 14) ۩ 19
