He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 to him thou attendest 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 and in awe [of God] 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 exalted, purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 And olives and palms 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 his mother, his father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 laughing and joyous 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 and covered by darkness. 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
