Al-Taareq
The Comet (Al-Taareq)
17 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Town (Al-Balad) before The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By heaven and the night-star! 1 what do you know what the night-visitor is? 2 It is the star that shines with a piercing brightness -- 3 There is no human being but has a protector over him (or her) (i.e. angels incharge of each human being guarding him, writing his good and bad deeds, etc.) 4 Let the human reflect of what he is created. 5 he was created of gushing water 6 that issues from between the loins and the ribs. 7 Verily He is Able to restore him, 8 The Day when all the secrets (deeds, prayers, fasting, etc.) will be examined (as to their truth). 9 Then he shall have no power nor any helper. 10 So I call to witness the rain-producing sky, 11 And [by] the earth which cracks open, 12 That this (Qur'an) is a decisive word 13 it is not a jest. 14 They are devising a guile, 15 but I shall bring all their scheming to nought. 16 So give a respite to the disbelievers. Deal thou gently with them for a while. 17
