The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Event (the resurrection) comes 1 There is about its happening no lie. 2 Degrading (some) and exalting (others); 3 when the earth will suddenly shake with a terrible shaking, 4 The mountains bruised and crushed, 5 and will scatter abroad into fine dust. 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 8 The people of the left hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their left hands. How miserable they will be! 9 And the forerunners, the forerunners - 10 They shall be the nearest to God. 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 Many of them will be from the ancient people 13 and a few from later times. 14 They will recline on jewelled couches 15 reclining upon them, set face to face, 16 They will be served by immortal boys, 17 with goblets, and ewers, and cups filled with water from unsullied springs 18 Wherefrom they get no aching of the head nor any madness, 19 And fruits that they may like. 20 And the flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And gorgeous eyed fair maidens. 22 like hidden pearls, 23 a recompense for that they laboured. 24 Therein they hear no vain or sinful discourse. 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 (They will be) among thornless lote-trees, 28 And clusters of banana plants. 29 and continuous shade, 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And abundant fruit, 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 And raised couches. 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 and made them virgins, 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 For those on the Right Hand. 38
