In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhammad) wrapped, 1 Keep vigil the night long, save a little - 2 (a half of it, or diminish a little, 3 Or increase thereto. And intone the Qur'an with measured intonations. 4 Behold, We shall cast upon thee a weighty word; 5 Surely getting up at night is the best means of subduing the self and is more suitable for uprightness in speech. 6 You have by day prolonged occupations. 7 Glorify the Name of your Lord, the Lord of the eastern and western regions, with due sincerity. 8 He is the Lord of the East and the West. There is no god but He. So take Him alone as your protector. 9 And bear thou patiently what they say, and forsake them graciously. 10 And let Me alone with the beliers, owners of ease: and respite thou them a little. 11 We have heavy fetters and a blazing Fire in store for them; 12 and food that chokes, and a painful chastisement, 13 on the Day the earth and mountains shall shake and the mountains crumble into shifting sand dunes. 14 We have sent you a Messenger, who will witness your deeds, just as We sent a Messenger to the Pharaoh. 15 But Firon disobeyed the apostle, so We laid on him a violent hold. 16 How then, if you disbelieve, will you preserve yourselves on the day which will even turn the children hoary? 17 Whereby heaven shall be split, and its promise shall be performed. 18 Lo! This is a Reminder. Let him who will, then, choose a way unto his Lord. 19
