He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 And he feareth 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and let the earth to break open 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 and dense orchards, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 laughing, joyous; 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
