The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
36 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Spider (Al-Ankaboot) before The Heifer (Al-Baqarah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
WOE TO THOSE who give short measure, 1 Those who when they take the measure from others, take it in full! 2 But when they measure out to others or weigh out for them, they are deficient. 3 Imagine such men not that they shall be raised up? 4 unto a mighty day 5 The day when everyone will stand before the Lord Of The Creation. 6 Indeed the ledger of the wicked will be in (the lowest depths) Sijjin. 7 What could let you know what the Sijjeen is! 8 It is a (repository of) distinctly written record. 9 Woe, then, to those that give the lie, 10 who belied the Day of Recompense! 11 And none gives the lie to it but every exceeder of limits, sinful one 12 [and so,] whenever Our messages are conveyed to them, they but say: "Fables of ancient times!" 13 No indeed; but that they were earning has rusted upon their hearts. 14 By no means! Verily on that Day from their Lord they will be shut out. 15 then they shall enter the Fire of Hell, 16 Then it shall be said to them, 'This is that you cried lies to.' 17 Nay! Most surely the record of the righteous shall be in the Iliyin. 18 and what will make you understand what the 'Illiyyin is? -- 19 It is a Book inscribed, 20 To which bear witness those brought nigh. 21 The virtuous will live in bliss, 22 Reclining on couches, looking on. 23 You will recognise the freshness of serenity on their faces. 24 Their thirst will be slaked with Pure Wine sealed: 25 The sealing of it is (with) musk; and for that let the aspirers aspire. 26 a wine tempered with the waters of Tasnim, 27 A spring, from (the waters) whereof drink those Nearest to Allah. 28 Lo! the guilty used to laugh at those who believed, 29 when they passed by them, they would wink at one another; 30 And when they returned to their own people, they would return jesting; 31 And when they saw them they said: Lo! these have gone astray. 32 though they were not sent to be their keepers -- 33 so today those who believe shall [be able to] laugh at those who denied the truth 34 On adorned couches, observing. 35 Have those who deny the truth [not] been paid back for their deeds? 36
True are the words of God the Almighty.
