Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Has not there come to you the news of the overwhelming calamity? 1 Faces on that Day shall be downcast, 2 Labouring (hard in the worldly life by worshipping others besides Allah), weary (in the Hereafter with humility and disgrace). 3 They will [enter to] burn in an intensely hot Fire. 4 watered at a boiling fountain, 5 No food for them save the bitterness of dry thorns, 6 which neither sustains, nor satisfy hunger. 7 In that day other faces will be calm, 8 Rejoicing over their efforts. 9 They will live in an exalted garden 10 Wherein you shall not hear vain talk. 11 Therein is a fountain flowing, 12 and raised couches, 13 and goblets set at hand, 14 And arranged carpets. 15 and well spread carpets. 16 Will they not then consider the camels, how they are created? 17 And the heaven – how it has been raised? 18 And at the mountains, how they are rooted and fixed firm? 19 And the earth – how it has been spread out? 20 So render good counsel, for you are simply required to counsel, 21 You are not a dictator over them. 22 As for those who turn their back and disbelieve, 23 So Allah will mete out to him the greatest punishment. 24 For to Us will be their return; 25 and then it is for Us to call them to account. 26

When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
