And when the sent angels came to the house of Lut. 61 he said: "Behold, you are people unknown [here]!" 62 They said, 'Nay, but we have brought thee that concerning which they were doubting. 63 We bring you the truth, and indeed we are truthful. 64 So set out with your family in a watch of the night, and keep yourself behind them, and no one of you may turn around, and keep going ahead as you have been commanded." 65 And We informed him the decision of this command, that at morning the root of the disbelievers would be cut off. 66 And the people of the city came, rejoicing at the news (of new arrivals). 67 Exclaimed [Lot]: "Behold, these are my guests: so put me not to shame, 68 and fear God, and do not degrade me.' 69 They said: "Did we not forbid thee (to speak) for all and sundry?" 70 He said: These are my daughters, if you will do (aught). 71 [But the angels spoke thus:] "As thou livest, [O Lot, they will not listen to thee:] behold, in their delirium [of lust] they are but blindly stumbling to and fro!" 72 And thereupon the blast [of Our punishment] overtook them at the time of sunrise, 73 We turned the town upside-down and showered on them lumps of baked clay. 74 There are certainly signs in that for those who can learn a lesson -- 75 That town lies on a road which still exists. 76 Verily in that is a sign for the believers. 77 And the dwellers of the thicket also were most surely unjust. 78 On them, too, We took vengeance, and they are both on a clear roadway. 79
