The Comet (Al-Taareq)
17 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Town (Al-Balad) before The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the heaven, and At-Tariq (the night-comer, i.e. the bright star); 1 And what will explain to thee what the Night-Visitant is?- 2 - The piercing Star! 3 No human soul but hath a guardian over it. 4 Let man consider what he was made of: 5 He was created from ejaculated water 6 Emerging from between the backbone and the ribs. 7 Surely, He is Able to bring him back, 8 On the day when all secrets will be made public, 9 He shall have neither strength nor helper. 10 By oath of the sky from which comes down the rain. 11 And by the Earth which opens out (for the gushing of springs or the sprouting of vegetation),- 12 BEHOLD, this [divine writ] is indeed a word that distinguishes between truth and falsehood, 13 And it is no joke. 14 Lo! they plot a plot (against thee, O Muhammad) 15 And I plot a plot (against them). 16 Therefore respite the unbelievers, and delay them for a while. 17
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
