The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 arise, and warn! 2 Thy Lord magnify 3 And your garments do purify, 4 Pollution shun! 5 And bestow not favour that thou mayest receive more. 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 That Day will be a difficult day 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Leave him to Me, the one whom I created single. 11 and whom I have granted abundant wealth 12 And sons present by his side. 13 I made things smooth and easy for him, 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 Nay! He is forward unto Our signs; 16 I shall oblige him to (climb a slippery mountain in the Hell-fire called As-Sa'ud, or to) face a severe torment! 17 He planned and plotted. 18 Ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 19 Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!- 20 Then looked he, 21 Then frowned and grimaced. 22 Then he turned back and was proud; 23 said, "This (the Quran) is nothing but magic, inherited from ancient magicians. 24 Naught is this but the word of Man. 25 I will cast him into hell. 26 Would that you really knew what hell is! 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 It shrivelleth the man. 29 Over it are nineteen [angels]. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
