He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 For him who does not care, 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 and fearfully, 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 On honourable pages. 13 Exalted, pure. 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 noble and pious. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 with darkness overspread: 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
True are the words of God the Almighty.
End of Surah: He Frowned ('Abasa). Sent down in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
