The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Read: In the name of thy Lord Who createth, 1 He created man from a clot of blood. 2 Read - for thy Sustainer is the Most Bountiful One 3 Who hath taught mankind by the pen 4 taught man what he did not know. 5 Nay! man is most surely inordinate, 6 for he believes himself to be self-sufficient. 7 Surely! Unto your Lord is the return. 8 Have you seen the one who forbids 9 a worshipper from praying? 10 Seest thou if he is on (the road of) Guidance?- 11 and enjoins piety? 12 Tell me if he (the disbeliever, Abu Jahl) denies (the truth, i.e. this Quran), and turns away? 13 Is he then unaware that Allah seeth? 14 Nay! if he desist not, We would certainly smite his forehead, 15 his lying sinful forelock. 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 We will call the guards of hell. 18 (Muhammad), never yield to him! Prostrate yourself and try to come closer to God. ۩ 19
