The assembly of Pharaoh's nation said: 'This man is a wellversed sorcerer 109 "He wishes to drive you away from the land. So what do you advise?" 110 They said: put him and his brother off, and send unto the cities callers. 111 "To bring all the wise magicians to you." 112 And the sorcerers came to Pharaoh, saying, 'We shall surely have a wage, if we should be the victors?' 113 He said: Yes, and you shall certainly be of those who are near (to me). 114 They said: "O Musa (Moses)! Either you throw (first), or shall we have the (first) throw?" 115 He replied, "Throw yours first." Their great magic bewitched people's eyes and terrified them. 116 We put it into Moses's mind by inspiration: "Throw (now) thy rod": and behold! it swallows up straight away all the falsehoods which they fake! 117 ۞ So the truth came to pass, and false was proved what they were doing. 118 Thus they were overcome and made to look abject. 119 And the sorcerers were cast down, bowing themselves. 120 saying: 'We believe in the Lord of the universe, 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron' 122 Said Pharaoh: "Believe ye in Him before I give you permission? Surely this is a trick which ye have planned in the city to drive out its people: but soon shall ye know (the consequences). 123 I will cut off your hands and feet on alternate sides and then crucify you all!" 124 They said, "Indeed, to our Lord we will return. 125 "But thou dost wreak thy vengeance on us simply because we believed in the Signs of our Lord when they reached us! Our Lord! pour out on us patience and constancy, and take our souls unto thee as Muslims (who bow to thy will)! 126
