The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 Arise and warn! 2 and exalt your Lord, 3 Purify your inner self, 4 and defilement flee! 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! 7 And when the trumpet is blown, 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 For the infidels, not easy. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 And gave him vast wealth. 12 And sons to be by his side!- 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 and who still greedily desires that I should bestow upon him more. 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 I shall inflict on him hardship, 17 He reflected, and then determined 18 But may he be cursed how he plotted; 19 Again accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 Then he turned away, and was haughty. 23 Then he said: This is naught but enchantment, narrated (from others); 24 It is nothing but the word of a mortal' 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 and it burns the flesh. 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 We have appointed none but angels to guard the Fire, and made their number only as a trial for the unbelievers, so that those to whom the Book was given are certain and those who believe increase in belief. And that those who were given the Book, and those who believe will not be in doubt. And that those in whose hearts there is a sickness, together with the unbelievers, may say: 'What did Allah intend by this as an example' As such, Allah leaves in error whom He will and He guides whomsoever He will. None knows the hosts of your Lord except He. This is no more than a Reminder to humans. 31
