He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 you pay him no heed. 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 On honourable pages. 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and let the earth to break open 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 and olives and palms, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 Mother and father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
