He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 you attend to him, 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 And he fears, 9 you ignore him. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Noble and righteous. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 And olives and palms 29 And thick gardens, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
