Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha. Mim. 1 I swear by the illustrious Book. 2 Surely We revealed it on a blessed night surely We are ever warning-- 3 In the (Night) is made distinct every affair of wisdom, 4 determined as a bidding from Us, (We are ever sending) 5 as a mercy from thy Lord (surely He is the All-hearing, the All-knowing) 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatsoever is in-between the twain, if only ye would be convinced. 7 There is no Allah save Him. He quickeneth and giveth death; your Lord and Lord of your forefathers. 8 Nay, they are in doubt, they sport. 9 Then watch thou for the Day that the sky will bring forth a kind of smoke (or mist) plainly visible, 10 That will envelop the people. This will be a painful punishment. 11 [They will say], "Our Lord, remove from us the torment; indeed, we are believers." 12 But how will they take heed? Such are they that a Messenger came to them clearly expounding the Truth, 13 and they turned away, saying, "He is a trained and insane person". 14 Yet We will hold the scourge back for a while, (but no sooner than We will do so) you will revert to your old ways. 15 On the day when We shall seize them with the greater seizure, (then) in truth We shall punish. 16 ۞ We tried Pharaoh's nation before them. A noble Messenger came to them, 17 Who said, “Give the bondmen of Allah into my custody; I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger for you.” 18 "And be not arrogant as against Allah: for I come to you with authority manifest. 19 and, behold, it is with my Sustainer - and your Sustainer - that I seek refuge against all your endeavours to revile me. 20 And if ye put no faith in me, then let me go. 21 And he called to his Lord, saying, 'These are a sinful people.' 22 Then (his Lord commanded): Take away My slaves by night. Lo! ye will be followed, 23 Leave the sea behind you parted; they are a host destined to be drowned." 24 How many gardens and fountains did they leave behind, 25 sown fields, and how noble a station, 26 and pleasant things in which they delighted! 27 Such was their end, and what had been theirs We gave to other people to inherit. 28 The sky nor the earth cried for them, nor were they given respite. 29
