The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the mount 1 Consider [God's] revelation, inscribed 2 In parchment spread open 3 Consider the long-enduring house [of worship]! 4 By the Canopy Raised High; 5 And by the sea kept filled (or it will be fire kindled on the Day of Resurrection). 6 surely, the punishment of your Lord is about to come, 7 there is none who could avert it. 8 on the Day when the skies are convulsed, 9 and the mountains shudder and shake. 10 Woe, then, on that Day to all who give the lie to the truth 11 and amuse themselves with vain argumentation. 12 The Day they are thrust toward the fire of Hell with a [violent] thrust, [its angels will say], 13 (And told:) "This is the fire which you denied. 14 Is this magic, or is it that you do not see? 15 Roast in it, bear it with or without patience, it is the same, you are only being recompensed for that which you used to do' 16 Verily the God-fearing will be in Gardens and Delight. 17 rejoicing in whatever their Lord has given them. Their Lord has saved them from the torment of the Fire, 18 (And it is said unto them): Eat and drink in health (as a reward) for what ye used to do, 19 Reclining on ranged couches. And we wed them unto fair ones with wide, lovely eyes. 20 And those who believe and whose families follow them in Faith,- to them shall We join their families: Nor shall We deprive them (of the fruit) of aught of their works: (Yet) is each individual in pledge for his deeds. 21 We shall provide them in abundance with all kinds of fruit and meat, whatever they may desire. 22 There they shall pass from hand to hand a (wine) cup, free from any Laghw (dirty, false, evil vague talk between them), and free from sin (because it will be legal for them to drink). 23 ۞ Round about them will serve, (devoted) to them, young male servants (handsome) as Pearls well-guarded. 24 They will go to one another asking each other questions: 25 They will say: verily we were aforetime, midst our household, ever in dread. 26 But Allah hath been gracious unto us and hath preserved us from the torment of the breath of Fire. 27 we were before ever calling upon Him; surely He is the All-benign, the All-compassionate.' 28
