The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the event befalleth - 1 Then none will be able to deny its occurrence. 2 It will bring low (some); (and others) it will exalt; 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 And the mountains are crumbled, crumbled. 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 So those on the Right Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Records in their right hands), Who will be those on the Right Hand? (As a respect for them, because they will enter Paradise). 8 And (then) those on the left hand; what of those on the left hand? 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 These will be those nearest to Allah. 11 in the Gardens of Bliss. 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 On couches in wrought with gold. 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 (and there) shall wait on them immortal youths 17 with goblets, and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 a drink by which their minds will not be clouded nor will it cause drunkenness; 19 And such fruits as they fancy, 20 and such flesh of fowl as they desire, 21 And gorgeous eyed fair maidens. 22 Like unto hidden pearls, 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 Therein they hear no vain or sinful discourse. 25 Except the word peace, peace. 26 Those on the Right, how fortunate are those on the Right! 27 mid thornless lote-trees 28 and acacias flower-clad, 29 and spreading shade 30 And in perpetually flowing water. 31 And fruit in abundance. 32 Neither limited [to season] nor forbidden, 33 and raised couches 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 So made them as maidens. 36 loving companions, matching in age, 37 for the people of the right hand 38
