The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the sun and its midmorning, 1 and by the moon as it follows it, 2 Consider the day as it reveals the world, 3 By the night when it envelopeth it, 4 The heavens and its architecture, 5 and by the earth and by Him Who stretched it out; 6 By the soul, and That which shaped it 7 And inspired it with the wickedness thereof and the piety thereof, 8 Surely blissful is he who hath cleansed it, 9 And indeed failed is the one who covered it in sin. 10 The Thamud tribe rejected the truth because of their arrogance, 11 Behold, the most wicked man among them was deputed (for impiety). 12 then the Messenger of God said to them, 'The She-camel of God; let her drink!' 13 Then they rejected him (as a false prophet), and they hamstrung her. So their Lord, on account of their crime, obliterated their traces and made them equal (in destruction, high and low)! 14 God is not afraid of the result of what He had decreed. 15
