And verily We sent Moses with Our revelations unto Pharaoh and his chiefs, and he said: I am a messenger of the Lord of the Worlds. 46 But when he brought to them Our signs they laughed at them, 47 yet there was not a sign that We showed them that was not greater than its sister, and We seized them with the punishment so that they might return. 48 And they said [to Musa (Moses)]: "O you sorcerer! Invoke your Lord for us according to what He has covenanted with you. Verily, We shall guide ourselves (aright)." 49 When We relieved them from the torment they suddenly turned back on their heels. 50 Then Pharaoh made a proclamation to his people: 'My people, is the kingdom of Egypt not mine and these rivers which flow beneath me? What, can you not see? 51 "Am I not better than this one [Musa (Moses)], who is Mahin [has no honour nor any respect, and is weak and despicable] and can scarcely express himself clearly? 52 “So why was he not bestowed with armlets of gold? Or angels should have come with him staying at his side!” 53 Thus did he make fools of his people, and they obeyed him: truly were they a people rebellious (against Allah). 54 So when they angered Us, We punished them, and drowned them all. 55 And We made them a precedent and an ensample unto those after. 56
