A crowd of earlier generations 39 And a crowd of the later. 40 BUT AS FOR those who have persevered in evil - what of those who have persevered in evil? 41 (They will be) in the midst of a Fierce Blast of Fire and in Boiling Water, 42 in the shadow of a smoking blaze, 43 neither cool nor good. 44 They had been affluent before, 45 and persisted in the Great Sin, 46 And said: "What! When we are dead and turned to dust and bones, shall we then be raised again? 47 and perhaps, too, our forebears of old?" 48 Say (unto them, O Muhammad): Lo! those of old and those of later time 49 "All will certainly be gathered together for the meeting appointed for a Day well-known. 50 Then you, the erring and the deniers, 51 "You verily will eat of the trees of Zaqqum. 52 And fill (your) bellies with it; 53 And drinking on top of it from scalding water 54 "So you will drink (that) like thirsty camels!" 55 Such shall be your hospitality on the Day of Recompense. 56 We created you, then why do you believe not? 57 Have ye seen that which ye emit? 58 Is it you that create it or are We the creators? 59 We mete out death among you, and We are not to be outrun, 60 In the matter of exchanging you for others, and to transform you into what you do not know. 61 And indeed, you have already known the first form of creation (i.e. the creation of Adam), why then do you not remember or take heed? 62 Have you thought about what crops you plant? 63 Do you make it grow or is it We who make it grow? 64 If We so pleased, We could turn your harvest into chaff. Then you would start lamenting, 65 “We have been penalised; 66 Nay, but we are deprived! 67 And have you seen the water that you drink? 68 Send it down ye from the raincloud, or are We the Sender down? 69 If We willed We verily could make it bitter. Why then, give ye not thanks? 70 See ye the Fire which ye kindle? 71 Produce ye the tree thereof, or are We the Producer? 72 We have made it a Reminder (for the Hell-fire, in the Hereafter); and an article of use for the travellers (and all the others, in this world). 73 Therefore (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) proclaim the Purity of the name of your Lord, the Greatest. 74
