The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
A caller supplicated about a punishment to fall on 1 The unbelievers-- there is none to avert it-- 2 From Allah, the Lord of all pinnacles. 3 The angels and Jibreel, ascend towards Him – the punishment will befall on a day which spans fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore be patient, with a beautiful patience; 5 behold, they see it as if far off; 6 But We see it (quite) near. 7 Upon the day when heaven shall be as molten copper 8 And then the mountains shall become like unto wool dyed. 9 And no friend will ask concerning his friend. 10 They will be seeing them; the guilty will wish if only he could redeem himself from the punishment of that day, by offering his sons. 11 And his wife and his brother. 12 and his kinsfolk who gave him shelter, 13 And all that are in the earth, so that it might save him. 14 By no means! Surely it is a flaming fire 15 Eager to roast; 16 and it will claim all those who turned their backs [on the true faith] and turned away [from the truth], 17 and amassed wealth and covetously hoarded it. 18 ۞ Surely man is greedy by nature. 19 When they are afflicted, they complain, 20 And when good touches him, withholding [of it], 21 Save worshippers. 22 Those who remain steadfast to their prayer; 23 In whose wealth a due share is included 24 For the petitioner and the deprived - 25 And those who hold to the truth of the Day of Judgment; 26 and fear the chastisement of their Lord – 27 For their Lord's displeasure is the opposite of Peace and Tranquillity;- 28 and guard their private parts 29 except from their wives and what their right hands own, for these they are not blameworthy. 30 And whosoever seeketh beyond that, then it is those who are the trespassers 31 And those who fulfil their trusts and covenants, 32 who testify to what they have witnessed, 33 and who guard their prayers [from all worldly intent]. 34 These will dwell in Gardens, honoured. 35
