Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
I swear by the daybreak, 1 By the Nights twice five; 2 And by the even and the odd, 3 The night as it advances, 4 Is there not an evidence in this for those who have sense? 5 Bethinkest thou not in what wise thy Lord did with the 'A'ad: 6 Who were very tall like lofty pillars, 7 Like whom no one else was born in the cities. 8 And with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the vale, 9 And [with] Pharaoh, owner of the stakes? - 10 Who terrorised the region, 11 and brought about great corruption therein: 12 and therefore thy Sustainer let loose upon them a scourge of suffering: 13 Verily, your Lord is Ever Watchful (over them). 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him, through honour and blessings, he says, "My Lord has honoured me," 15 But when He trieth him, restricting his subsistence for him, then saith he (in despair), "My Lord hath humiliated me!" 16 No! But you do not honor the orphan 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the needy. 18 and you devour the inheritance with greed, 19 and you ardently love wealth. 20 When the earth is crushed into small pieces 21 And comes your Lord, and angels row on row, 22 And Hell, that Day, is brought (face to face),- on that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance profit him? 23 He will say: "Ah! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my (Future) Life!" 24 So on that Day, none will punish as He will punish. 25 And His bonds will be such as none other can bind. 26 O the contented soul! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him], 28 Join My servants. 29 yea, enter thou My paradise!" 30
