The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the sun and his brightness, 1 And by the moon as it follows it (the sun); 2 and by the day as it displays the sun's glory, 3 and by the night when it enshrouds him! 4 and by the sky and by Him Who made it; 5 By the earth and Him Who spread it forth, 6 By the soul and Him Who propertioned it, 7 And given the faculty of knowing what is disruptive and what is intrinsic to it. 8 He who nourishes it will surely be successful, 9 and those who corrupt their souls will certainly be deprived (of happiness). 10 Thamud denied [their prophet] by reason of their transgression, 11 when the most wicked of them broke forth, 12 Then the apostle of Allah said unto them: beware of the she-camel of Allah and her drink. 13 Then they belied him and they hamstrung her; wherefore their Lord overwhelmed them for their crime, and made it equal. 14 He does not fear the result (of their destruction). 15
