۞ We had earlier given Abraham true direction, for We knew him well. 51 When he said unto his father and his folk: What are these images unto which ye pay devotion? 52 They replied, "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said, "Indeed ye have been in manifest error - ye and your fathers." 54 They said, "Have you brought us the Truth, or are you one of those who jest?" 55 Abraham replied, "Your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, who created them, and I bear witness to that. 56 And, by God, I shall assuredly outwit your idols, after you have gone away turning your backs.' 57 Then he broke them all into pieces, sparing only the supreme one among them that they may possibly return to him. 58 (When the people came to the temple and saw the broken idols) they asked each other, "Who has done this to our gods? He certainly is an unjust person". 59 They said: "We heard a young man talking (against) them who is called Ibrahim (Abraham)." 60 They said, "Then bring him here in the sight of all the people, so that they may act as witnesses." 61 (On Abraham's arrival) they said: "Abraham, are you he who has done this to our gods?" 62 [Ibrahim (Abraham)] said: "Nay, this one, the biggest of them (idols) did it. Ask them, if they can speak!" 63 So they returned one to another, and they said, 'Surely it is you who are the evildoers.' 64 Then their minds were turned upside down, and they said: "You know well that they do not speak." 65 He said, "Then do you worship instead of Allah that which does not benefit you at all or harm you? 66 Fie upon you and upon all that you worship beside Allah. Do you have no sense?" 67 They said: "Burn him and help your aliha (gods), if you will be doing." 68 We said, 'O fire, be coolness and safety for Abraham!' 69 They had sought to do evil to him, but We caused them to be the worst losers, 70 And We delivered him and Lut to the land wherein We had placed Our blessings for the worlds. 71 And We bestowed him Ishaq, and Yaqub the grandson; and We made all of them worthy of Our proximity. 72 And We made them leaders, guiding (mankind) by Our Command, and We inspired in them the doing of good deeds, performing Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat), and the giving of Zakat and of Us (Alone) they were worshippers. 73 To Lot We gave knowledge and wisdom and saved him from the people of the town who were committing indecent acts. They were certainly a bad and sinful people. 74 And We admitted him to Our Mercy, truly, he was of the righteous. 75
