The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
A requester seeks the punishment that will take place – 1 for the unbelievers, which none may avert, 2 [since it will come] from God, unto whom there are many ways of ascent: 3 The angels and the Ruh [Jibrael (Gabriel)] ascend to Him in a Day the measure whereof is fifty thousand years, 4 So be thou patient with a sweet patience; 5 They think that it (the Day of Judgment) is far away. 6 And We behold it nigh. 7 On the day when the heaven shall be as molten copper 8 And the mountains will be like wool, 9 And not a friend shall ask a friend, 10 Though they will be put in sight of each other,- the sinner's desire will be: Would that he could redeem himself from the Penalty of that Day by (sacrificing) his children, 11 his wife, his brother, 12 and of all the kinsfolk who ever sheltered him, 13 and all persons of the earth, if only he could thus save himself. 14 By no means! for it would be the Fire of Hell!- 15 Eager to roast; 16 It calleth him who turned and fled (from truth), 17 and amassed wealth and covetously hoarded it. 18 ۞ Truly man was created very impatient;- 19 If evil befalls him he is perturbed; 20 when good visits him, grudging, 21 Save worshippers. 22 and are constant in their Prayer; 23 and those in whose wealth there is a known right 24 For the (needy) who asks and him who is prevented (for some reason from asking); 25 And those who believe in the Day of Recompense 26 and fear the chastisement of their Lord – 27 Lo! the doom of their Lord is that before which none can feel secure - 28 who guard their carnal desires 29 Except in the case of their wives or those whom their right hands possess-- for these surely are not to be blamed, 30 But whoever seeks beyond that, then they are the transgressors - 31 and those who are faithful to their trusts and to their pledges; 32 and those who are upright in their testimonies; 33 And those who of their prayer are observant. 34 They will be in gardens, honored. 35
