The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Read in the name of your Lord Who created. 1 Created man from a clot. 2 Read: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, 3 who taught by the pen, 4 Hath taught man that which he knew not. 5 No indeed; surely Man waxes insolent, 6 As he considers himself independent! 7 Lo! unto thy Lord is the return. 8 Hast thou seen him who dissuadeth 9 A votary when he turns to his devotions? 10 Have you thought, if he had been on guidance 11 or is concerned with God-consciousness? 12 Did you consider: what if he gives the lie (to the Truth) and turns away (from it)? 13 Does he not know that God observes all things? 14 Nay, but if he cease not We will seize him by the forelock - 15 The lying, sinful forelock - 16 Then let him summon his council, 17 We will call the guards of hell. 18 Nay! obey him not, and make obeisance and draw nigh (to Allah). ۩ 19
