The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 no soul will deny its coming. 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 When the earth is shaken with a shaking [severe,] 4 And the mountains are crumbled, crumbled. 5 they will become like dust scattered around. 6 And you shall be three sorts. 7 Those on the Right -- how blessed are those on the Right! 8 Those on the Left -- how unlucky are those on the Left! 9 And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: 10 They shall be the nearest to God. 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam). 13 And a few of later ages, 14 They (will be seated) on gold-encrusted couches, 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 Immortal youths will wait upon them 17 Cups and decanters, beakers full of sparkling wine, 18 Unheady, uninebriating; 19 with fruits of their own choice 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 and there shall be wide-eyed maidens, 22 like pearls preserved in their shells, 23 as reward for their deeds. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 but only the tiding of inner soundness and peace. 26 The companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 27 They shall be in the midst of thornless lote trees, 28 and acacias flower-clad, 29 and continuous shade, 30 and flowing water 31 and fruits abounding 32 That will neither finish, nor ever be stopped. 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 And made them virginal, 36 Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. 37 For those on the right hand; 38
