The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
A supplicant asked for a punishment bound to happen 1 the unbelievers which none can prevent. 2 [It is] from Allah, owner of the ways of ascent. 3 by which the angels and the Spirit ascend to Him in one Day the duration of which is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore endure with a goodly patience. 5 Verily they behold it afar off. 6 while We think that it is near at hand. 7 The Day that the sky will be like molten brass, 8 And the mountains will be like wool, 9 And no friend will ask after a friend, 10 Though they shall be made to see one another [(i.e. on the Day of Resurrection), there will be none but see his father, children and relatives, but he will neither speak to them nor will ask them for any help)], - the Mujrim, (criminal, sinner, disbeliever, etc.) would desire to ransom himself from the punishment of that Day by his children. 11 And his wife and his brother, 12 His kindred who sheltered him, 13 And all that are in the earth, if then it might deliver him. 14 By no means! Surely it is a flaming fire 15 A fire that melts the hide. 16 and it shall call him who withdrew and turned his back 17 And amasses (wealth) then shuts it up. 18 ۞ Surely man was created fretful, 19 When evil comes upon him he is impatient; 20 And niggardly when good reaches him;- 21 Except those who establish prayer. 22 and are constant in their Prayer; 23 And those in whose wealth is a recognised right. 24 For the beggar and the destitute; 25 And those who believe in the Day of Judgment, 26 and fear the chastisement of their Lord – 27 Indeed, the punishment of their Lord is not that from which one is safe - 28 And those who guard their chastity, 29 Save in regard to their spouses or those whom their right hands own; so verily they are not blameworthy 30 But those who seek more than this will be transgressors; 31 And those who are to their trusts and promises attentive 32 And those who stand by their testimony 33 And those who of their prayer are observant. 34 Such will be the honoured ones in the Gardens (of Bliss). 35
