In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you who are wrapped up in your mantle, 1 stand up to pray for much of the night. 2 It may be half the night or a little less than that 3 and recite the Quran in a distinct tone; 4 Verily, We shall send down to you a weighty Word (i.e. obligations, legal laws, etc.). 5 [and,] verily, the hours of night impress the mind most strongly and speak with the clearest voice, 6 Verily there is for thee by day occupation prolonged. 7 Remember the Name of your Lord and dedicate yourself devoutly to Him. 8 The Sustainer of the east and the west [is He]: there is no deity save Him: hence, ascribe to Him alone the power to determine thy fate, 9 And patiently endure upon what the disbelievers say, and leave them for good. 10 And let Me alone with the beliers, owners of ease: and respite thou them a little. 11 Surely with Us are heavy fetters and a flaming fire, 12 and food that chokes, and grievous suffering 13 On the day when the earth and the hills rock, and the hills become a heap of running sand. 14 We have sent an Apostle to you as a witness against you, as We had sent an apostle to the Pharaoh. 15 But Firon disobeyed the apostle, so We laid on him a violent hold. 16 Then how can you avoid the punishment, if you disbelieve, on a Day that will make the children grey-headed (i.e. the Day of Resurrection)? 17 And the heaven shall be split therein. His promise indeed must be fulfilled. 18 This is a reminder. Let anyone who wants, seek guidance from his Lord. 19
