Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the Dawn 1 And ten nights, 2 By the even and odd (contrasted); 3 and by the night when it departs. 4 Indeed in that there is an oath for a man of sense. 5 Did you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) not see (thought) how your Lord dealt with 'Ad (people)? 6 of Iram, known for their lofty columns, 7 the like of which has never been created in the land, 8 And how did He deal with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the valley? 9 And the mighty Pharaoh 10 [It was they] who transgressed all bounds of equity all over their lands, 11 and brought about great corruption therein: 12 So your Lord poured upon them a scourge of punishment. 13 Lo! thy Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him and then is gracious and provides good things for him, he says: "My Lord has been gracious to me." 15 And when He proveth him, and so stinteth unto him his provision, he saith: 'my Lord hath despised me. 16 Nay, but ye (for your part) honour not the orphan 17 or urge one another to feed the destitute? 18 and you devour the inheritance with greed, 19 And love wealth with all your heart. 20 Nay! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 And thy Lord shall come and the angels, rank on rank. 22 And the Hell on that Day shall be brought nigh. On that Day man shall remember, but how will remembrance avail him? 23 He will say, "Would that I had done some good deeds for this life". 24 On that day the punishment of God and His detention will be unparalleled. 25 and none can bind with bonds like His! 26 (On the other hand it will be said): “O serene soul! 27 Return towards your Lord – you being pleased with Him, and He pleased with you! 28 Enter among My servants 29 And enter thou My Garden. 30
