In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Read! In the name of your Lord, who created: 1 Hath created man from a clot! 2 Read, for your Lord is most beneficent, 3 who taught by the pen, 4 Teacheth man that which he knew not. 5 Nay, verily, man becomes grossly overweening 6 because he thinks himself self-sufficient: 7 Indeed, to your Lord is the return. 8 What thinkest thou? He who forbids 9 A bondman of Ours when he prayeth 10 Seest thou if he is on (the road of) Guidance?- 11 Or he commandeth piety? 12 Bethinkest thou, if he belieth and turneth away? 13 Did he not know that God sees? 14 No indeed; if he does not desist, We shall drag him by the forelock; 15 A forelock, lying, sinning. 16 So let him call his associates, 17 We will now call the guards! 18 Nay! (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him))! Do not obey him (Abu Jahl). Fall prostrate and draw near to Allah! ۩ 19
